Unfortunately, It’s a Girl!
The title for this lithograph print is taken directly from a line in the novel Agnes Grey by Anne Brontë (minus the exclamation point). However, the artwork was also inspired by Villette, written by Charlotte Brontë. This artwork aims to symbolize how the birth of Rosalie’s girl in the book might have occurred in the present day. Perhaps everything would be made blue in hopes for a boy but frantically changed at the last minute to pink except for the inside of the cake, for which there was no time to remake.
